AddressForAll President, Thierry Jean, was Invited to give a talk at the IGAC Geomatics Week in Colombia. He presented the progress of the AddressForAll project and made a comparison, in South America, of how the statistical Institutes of each country release their address data. Fredy Rivera, President of the OSM foundation — Colombia and AddressForAll Correspondent in Colombia also did a presentation.
Thierry and Fredy were also invited to a face-to-face meeting with the General Manager of DANE (National Administrative Department of Statistics), Mr. Juan Daniel Oviedo and his team (photo), in which they made him understand the importance and usefulness of a complete list of addresses for the country.
Mr. Juan Daniel Oviedo was very receptive and asked the AddressForAll Institute, the OpenStreetMap Foundation of Colombia and DANE to work together for the publication of the address database on Colombia’s national open data portal.
The AddressForAll team is very happy with this step forward, trusting that this example, together with those of Uruguay, Brazil and Ecuador, will motivate the other South American countries to publish the address databases collected for the operation of the Census, since these addresses can be considered intrinsically public information, independent of the census data, subject to statistical secrecy.
